London Elektricity-Just One Second (Apex Remix)

    airportdj:

If all Drum and Bass sounded like this, I wouldn’t play anything else.

I first heard this in a mix by the incredible Mat Zo. He’s only 19, but is already a world-famous DJ and producer, he has roughly a track a month released on huge labels like Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats and Armin Van Buuren’s Soundpiercing. If that’s not enough to make me jealous, he is actually really talented. He has a fresh, innovative sound, and I’ve played many of his tracks this year, his latest track “24 Hours” is absolutely incredible.

His set at Above & Beyond’s Trance Around The World #300 party in Moscow was very good, if a bit heavy on his own tracks. But the ending was one of the coolest I have ever heard. After 2 hours of progressive trance, probably peaking at 135/140bpm, he mixes in this song, which both fits in perfectly with the dreamy uplifting trance he had been playing, but takes the set to a whole new level, a different place. And it just surprised me how seamless the mix from trance to this Drum and Bass was, he pushed the tempo about 25 bpm in a minute, but far from sounding jarring, it just sends shivers down my spine every time. If only I was one of the lucky russians at the gig.

London Elektricity are Drum and Bass legends, they pioneered playing live Drum and Bass about 10 years ago, as is now popular with bands like Pendulum.

It seems hard to really find much about Drum and Bass, it seems quite an underground scene. The remixer, Apex, who has done such a fantastic job, used to work under the name Unknown Error, and is now part of the Lifted Music collective. Believe me, those names mean nothing to me either. Lifted Music are some kind of d’n’b label, but they don’t even have a working website, just a short Wikipedia entry. Perhaps it’s because I really don’t listen to or play much Drum and Bass. But if it turns out most of the tracks are like this, I wouldn’t look back.
